At Hurlyvale Primary School, we believe that a well-rounded education is essential for all our learners. That is why we provide a range of extra-curricular activities for our students to participate in.
From Grade 1 onwards, we encourage all children to participate in the many extra-curricular activities that we have on offer. Including a variety of clubs and societies, sports teams, music groups, drama clubs, coding and robotics clubs and more. We aim to provide our learners with a supportive environment where they can develop their skills and interests, make new friends and have fun.
We believe that these activities are an essential part of our learners’ education and help them develop skills that will benefit them in all areas of their lives. We encourage all our students to get involved and discover their passions.
Sport at Hurlyvale Primary School includes swimming, netball, hockey, cross-country, drummies, athletics, cricket, soccer, tennis, rugby, girls’ touch rugby, and girls’ soccer. Our sporting philosophy is grounded in mass participation, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to be involved, to learn, and to enjoy the game.
While inclusivity is at the heart of our approach, we also recognise the importance of quality coaching. We are fortunate to have young, dynamic coaches, many of whom excelled in these codes during their own high school careers. They bring fresh energy, modern techniques, and a relatable approach to our players.
Our ultimate goal is to help every child improve from one year to the next, preparing them for the higher levels of competition as they progress through school. In this way, sport becomes a journey of continuous growth rather than a single season of results.
That said, our teams do naturally enter into competitive fixtures, and we strive to be competitive and proud representatives in every match we play. We believe that through mass participation, strong coaching, and a commitment to improvement, we are building not just teams—but confident, resilient, and skilled young sportspeople.
At Hurlyvale Primary School, we feel that creating a holistic learner is very important. This is why we offer a variety of Cultural activities, along with the sporting programme.
Cultural activities on offer throughout the year are: Cooking Club, Art Club, Wildlife Club, Arts and Culture Club, Debating, Choir, Marimba & Percussion, Indigenous Games, Chess and Eisteddfod.
Parents, at an extra cost, are able to send their children to a variety of private lessons on the school property. These lessons include: Dancing, Gymnastics, Piano, Recorder, Violin, Karate and Drumming.
We’re excited to offer Coding and Robotics and a Computer Club as an engaging extra-mural activity for all Hurlyvale Primary learners from Grades 1 to 7! For Coding and Robotics, our program provides a hands-on learning experience where students use LEGO Spike kits to build and code robots. Using block coding, based on the popular Scratch platform, learners develop sequences to make their creations perform specific tasks. We also foster a spirit of friendly competition by participating in the World Robotics Olympiad (WRO) and hosting our own in-house challenges.
Our goal is to expose students to this rapidly growing field while nurturing essential 21st-century skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork.
